Free family fun day for local people
A local charity is set to host a family fun day for the people of Winchester – and there’s free entry for everyone!
Hampshire Hospitals Charity is once again hosting its Lion’s Picnic event at Winchester Rugby Club on Sunday 25 May. The event will help raise money to enhance hospitals in Winchester and Basingstoke for its youngest patients.
Everyone is welcome to join the celebrations which run from 10am to 4pm and the day will be filled with activities including pony rides, a motorcycle display and children’s mascots.
Morgan Hughes, fundraising assistant at Hampshire Hospitals Charity, said; “We’re excited to be bringing this free family fun day to the people of Winchester to thank them for their support of our hospitals. We’ll have a range of entertainment for everyone to enjoy as well as stalls from local businesses, including plenty of food and drink vendors. We’ll also be joined by teams from across our hospitals who will be showcasing their work and how charity donations have helped them provide even better care to local people.”
Explaining where the money raised at the event will go, Morgan continued; “All the money raised at the Lion’s Picnic will go to our children and young people fund for improvements to our hospitals, making them even more welcoming for our young patients. If a child needs to come into hospital to be cared for, the unknown can be scary for them. We use generous donations to enhance spaces in our hospitals so they are welcoming and appropriate for children and young people, so their memory of their experience is a good one.”
The event has been kindly sponsored by Howden and their branch manager Ian Tuffrey explained why they are getting involved; “The Lion’s Picnic is set to be fantastic day of fun for families and a celebration of everything that makes our community special. As a principal partner of The British and Irish Lions, it felt natural to show our support for Hampshire Hospitals Charity, not just because of the name and Winchester Rugby Club connection, but because we use insurance as a powerful force for good at Howden, supporting the causes that matter to the clients and community we serve.”
