Crochet or knitting donations

Many of our departments can utilise knitted or crochet items to aid patient care.

Many patients within our hospitals can benefit from crocheted or knitted items to support their care. Please take a look below to see some of the items you can knit or crochet for our patients. If you would like to crochet or knit something for our wards that you cannot see below, please do contact us using the button above. Please note, we are incredibly grateful to have a large supply of knitted hats, cardigans, booties and mittens already.

Upon receiving your donations, our teams will check your creation is suitable for use.

Twiddle muffs

These are knitted muffs with different textures that help to support dementia patients through keeping patients’ hands busy and active. They provide a source of tactile and sensory stimulation and often have various beads, ribbons and fabrics for the patient to fiddle with whilst keeping their hands nice and warm.

When making your twiddle muff, please ensure any beads or ribbons will not break and are not brittle or sharp to touch. Donations should be dropped or posted to either:

  • Room 131, F Floor, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Aldermaston Road, RG24 9NA

  • Room 118, Integrated Discharge Bureau, Brinton Wing, Royal Hampshire County Hospital SO22 5DG

Knitted teddies

Knitted teddies can be given to many of our patients, including those with dementia. Many knitted teddies are donated to our trolley in the emergency department for patients who need them.

Teddies can be dropped to either:

  • Room 131, F Floor, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Aldermaston Road, RG24 9NA

  • Room 118, Integrated Discharge Bureau, Brinton Wing, Royal Hampshire County Hospital SO22 5DG

Drawstring bags

These are small bags that our teams are able to use as admission packs, containing useful information and various items that families might need whilst with our neonatal unit. When families return home, they often like to use these to house keepsakes such as the baby’s wristband or cot card. Drawstring bags should be roughly 42cm x 26cm.

Please drop or post donations of drawstring bags to: Neonatal unit, Ground floor, Sherborne Building, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Aldermaston Road, RG24 9NA.

Crochet blankets

Blankets can be used in many areas of our hospitals, including with organ donation patients. These can be made in various sizes and colours. Blankets should be tightly knitted.

Please drop donations to: Management offices, level B, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Romsey Road, SO22 5DG
